My Work On RL Virtual Worlds Film - VLOGGER - Coming Soon Finally!

Lead Actress - Irina Sanjeevani As Tania Khan

You might remember in a previous post http://digitalimagefashion.blogspot.com/2011/03/digital-image-ltd-is-pleased-to.html that I created  two of the main characters in the Spanish produced movie VLOGGER. I am please to announce that the project has moved forward and Tania (see above split screen first official movie poster) and Angel have been cast in RL and filming is in the final stages of completion.
Story synopsis below:
Tània Khan, a video game novice, has six days to try to prevent a terrorist attack that has been planned onlineVideo games and current world intrigue mesh together in this thriller that takes place in the virtual 3D world of Second Life.  Tania explores the mechanisms of war, terror, family, love, loyalty and how this group accesses social networks to coordinate through new technologies. When both worlds collide she faces the ultimate challenge.
Thanks again to the Writer/Director, incredibly talented digital film (machinima) visionary, Ricard Gras, who sought me out after seeing my work and asked me to re-create the lead characters in Second Life. It was a pleasure to work with him on this project.

Lead Actor - Eduard Alejandre As Angel Garcia

Media, Machinima and the Virtual Runway: The Rise of Fashionista in Second Life

A link to a recent article written by Phylis Johnson for SCAN Journal of Media Arts Culture about virtual world fashion, particularly the Second Life fashion industry.  She references many of us involved in the arena, as well as detailing demographics about it's participants and figures.  Scan is a project of the Media Department @ Macquarie University, Sydney.

My fashion machinima work was referenced in the article as well as written below.

The Machinima Evolution
"In Second Life, content creation skills, such as mastery of advanced graphics and production software, can be used in creating advertisements and machinima. One relatively new SL fashion designer, Scarlett Niven (Digital Image 2010), is also a 'machinimatographer'(where machinima and cinematography) who promotes her own designs through her original machinima, typically still and motion shots of her designs in various poses. She produces small promotional vignettes for fashion designers. The SL videos, produced for television streamed in-world and posted on the Web, are created through the process of machinima.

Evolving from the concept of machine cinema, machinima was originally spelled 'machinema'. This type of production moves beyond traditional 3D animation to capture motion in real-time interactive environments of game worlds, single or multi-player. Machinima began as short movie clips of the early action shooter games and transitioned into artistic or cinematic expression that has found its way onto mainstream television and movies. Technically, it relies on the engine of the virtual game for its capture of images and motion.
Machinima is unique to particular virtual worlds, with certain stylistic differences originating from the different platforms. Machinima can originate within a virtual world environment like Second Life, or it might originate outside of a game platform as in MovieStorm, which is intended as a controlled virtual film set. Debates revolving around the definition of machinima are quite common (Hancock & Ingram 2007; Lowood 2005; Marino 2004; Nitsche 2009a and 2009b), as the medium evolves and expands its applications. One limitation is, how does one create continuity among actors and events? In Second Life, for instance, the range of facial expressions and movements are only as sophisticated as the availability of in-world animation permits. Most machinima works are under five minutes, but that might not always be the case as filmmakers seek inexpensive means of producing feature films."

A big congrats to veteran Machinimatographer,  Chantal Harvey and her team of Lorin Tone, Madcow Cosmos, Lauren Weyland, Judi Newall, L1Aura Loire, Ze Moo, robwag Soothsayer and Annabelle Fleury - for their big victory in getting machinima included in Aniboom's contest for a new Sesame Street character.  You can view "10 Little Aliens" below and do go over to Aniboom's website and vote and leave a comment! Support SL machinima and tweet, share, whatever!

The character avatar is for sale for 55L here and all proceeds go toward the funding of future machinimas.  I jokingly told Chantal to not forget me when she is a millionare off merchandising. LOL!

This is a very big step in getting machinima recognized as a source for animation/movie making outside of SL, so thank you to Chantal and her group for all their hard work!

Thanks to Aino Baar's extraordinary marketing efforts our machinimas will be presented at the RL World Expo 2010 Shanghaï in the Madrid Pavillion.

The World Expo in Shanghai will occupy a total of five (5) square kilometers and it is expected SEVENTY (70) million visitors.

We will show the world how we use Machinima, how important this tool it is today and how it will become an important tool in so many other areas of our lives in the future. For those of you who won't be able to attend the fair, you still will be able to follow the tremendous artistic effort that is being deployed by this group on the Second Life platform,  as Linden Labs has graciously given five (5) sims for the duration of the Expo (6 months).  The sims are being prepared now and have a targeted opening date of 5/1/2010.
Each sim will be based on one of the themes (Light, Sound, Energy, Color and Love) and will present original artistic work interpreting the stories.
Kamachinima Production is working in parallel with OPEN THIS END activities because of the original stories we have created.  We shall have our own special presence in this major event with each machinima being shown on each corresponding sim.  Our warmest thanks to Aino Baar!

New Machinima Project - Kamachinima Production

I am pleased to announce I have been asked to join a very special project with Kamachinima Production. Kamachinima's charter is to produce original machinima based on original stories and music. The team has been asked to complete a series of 5 machinima shorts, each assigned a different theme - Color, Energy, Light, Love and Sound.
The body of work will be broadcast at The World Expo in Shanghai, China on a large screen to attendees thru the end of October, 2010. It is a tremendous opportunity and I am extremely honored and excited that I was asked to participate in the project on the recommendation of one of SL's experts in machinima, Chantal Harvey. Thank you, Chantal! Shooting and set builds will be on a Sim specifically purchased for the use of the groups' projects. I will be filming and the hauntingly beautiful story, Color Me - written by Rafale Kamachi (SL). The story revolves around the main character, Dew (played by me) and a little girl in a sepia photo called Emma. All of the vignettes will be shot without dialog to address a global viewing audience. Emotions will be conveyed via facial expressions, original music and editing. You can follow our progress, see teaser trailers and keep informed of all other things concerning the project via the official website - Kamachinima Productions and Facebook! New Machinima! Alice In Wonderland ~Through The Looking Glass~ Short

Getting back into practice doing my machinima again which has been dormant for awhile.  Encouragement from a friend who loves it a much as me was a big factor in getting this little starter project finished.  He has much better machinima knowledge than me so I was surprised and honored when he asked me to collaborate with him on a project. Not sure exactly what we are planning to do but I'm sure it will be amazing with his input.  Enjoy!
